Like Sands Through the Hourglass…

Buried way, way down on the Tribune’s local news list, it was quietly announced that the U.S. Senate has changed their minds and decided to admit Roland Burris against their own better judgment. More on page 237

Puzzled…

Posted in: National | Comments (0)

Yeah yeah, Blojobovich got impeached…big deal, everyone with two brain cells to rub together saw that coming. What caught my eye today however was the announcement that the IL Supreme Court has decided that Roland Burris (D-Never-Never-Land) is officially qualified to be the junior senator from Illinois. Furthermore, Burris & company plan on marching right back to the Senate and informing them of this, paperwork and all.

Here’s my problem with this: At what point did the IL Supreme Court have jurisdiction over the United States Senate?????? I know it’s been years since I took the Constitution test back in high school, but I just know there wasn’t anything in there about a state court trumping a federal legislative body. Unless of course my gut-reaction is right and this is a stall tactic/PR maneuver…

Curmudgeon, if you’re out there and reading this: you’re the lawyer, what say you?

CNN, the London Telegraph, the Huffington Post, and (if anyone cares) AOL News are all reporting that Larry Flynt, he of Hustler magazine and any one of dozens of other pornographic pursuits, and Joe Francis (CEO of the Girls Gone Wild series of amateur Porky’s movies) have requested a Federal bailout of $5 billion.

I am SO not making this up:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/07/porn-bailout-larry-flynt_n_155878.html

Honestly folks, I don’t find it ironic in the least…in fact, I’m surprised Flynt took this long; I actually expected him to do something like this.

And you know what? Magazines or not, he’s right. It takes someone from the fringe to point out the idiocy that we take for granted these days.

The Deafening Stupidity…

Posted in: International | Comments (0)

According to an article in the Chicago Tribune, uber-left-wingers aren’t the only ones expecting Obama to perform miracles:

BEIRUT — President-elect Barack Obama’s silence on the 8-day-old offensive in Gaza is drawing criticism among Arabs who have grown skeptical about hopes that his administration will break with the Mideast policies of the Bush era.

Oh, you mean the policy where we don’t do business with known terrorist organizations?

The satellite TV network Al Jazeera contrasted footage of Obama wearing shorts and playing golf in Hawaii with scenes of the carnage in Gaza, by way of highlighting what it called “the deafening silence from the Obama team.”

Would that be the silence of an administration that isn’t in office yet??? Not like Al-Jazeera is biased or anything (end sarcasm).

“People recall his campaign slogan of change and hoped that it would apply to the Palestinian situation,” said Jordanian analyst Labib Kamhawi, speaking from Amman, Jordan. “So they look at his silence as a negative sign. They think he is condoning what happened in Gaza because he’s not expressing any opinion.”

Umm, hey folks? He’s running for President of the United States. If you’re tired of us being “police to the world” then shut up about our leaders not paying any attention to you.

Osama Hamdan, the Hamas representative in Lebanon, called Obama’s silence “strange” and said it suggested he was fearful of offending Israel as past U.S. presidents have been.

Orrrrrr, maybe it suggests he’s fearful of condoning blatant terrorist activity…you know, that whole lobbing-rockets-into-Israel thing, courtesy of Mr. Hamdan’s party, Hamas (Motto: “They started it!”)

“We want him to say something at least to stop the bloodshed,” said Suhail Natour, a Palestinian activist who lives in the Mar Elias Palestinian refugee camp in Beirut. “Waiting until the 20th, with the bloodshed continuing, I don’t think is an acceptable way of confirming a new policy in the Middle East. Silence on this means complicity.”

Silence on this means he’s not agreeing with you. This is almost as ridiculous as North Korea; who gave these dweebs the idea that they were right in the first place?

Everyone pay close attention here: Hamas. Started. This. No brain-surgery involved. They’ve been a terrorist organization since before the word “terrorist” made up a third of all news media. They’re all insane and need to die so that peaceful Palestinians no longer have to worry about getting the short end of the stick. Do Hamas’ leaders (the ones who are still alive anyway) actually think this is going to sway Obama to their way of thinking? Yeah yeah, it was Palestine before it was Israel, but the Jews were there before the Arabs were by a good 2500 years; share nicely or go someplace else. Preferably not here.

More Good Times in the Middle East

Posted in: International | Comments (0)

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — An Israeli warplane dropped a 2,000-pound bomb on the home of one of Hamas’ top five decision-makers Thursday, instantly killing him and 18 others, while the Israeli army said troops massed on the Gaza border were ready for any order to invade.

Staggers the imagination…Hamas is like a deadly, suicidal little brother poking you in the back seat of the car on a long trip, then claiming you started it after you whack him one in the head.

Israel seemed determined to press ahead with airstrikes on Hamas houses. It also has been targeting buildings used by the territory’s Hamas government — emptied days ago by evacuations — as well as rocket-launching sites and smuggling tunnels along the border with Egypt.

“We are trying to hit everybody who is a leader of the organization, and today we hit one of their leaders,” Israeli Vice Premier Haim Ramon said in a television interview.

More than 400 Gazans had been killed and some 1,700 wounded since Israel embarked on its aerial campaign, Gaza health officials said. The United Nations has said the death toll includes more than 60 civilians, 34 of them children.

Might have something to do with the cowards hiding behind civilians, eh?
I’m not really sure where the breakdown in communication is occurring. If you lob rockets at a country that is 1000 times more well-armed and trained, what do you expect to happen?
